  • RIDES LIKE A BAD HORSE - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

SOON AFTER I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN OCT 2000 I SUSPECTED I HAD MADE A BAD PURCHASE. AFTER ALMOST THREE YEARS OWNING IT I HAVE CONFIRMED WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE I MADE. FOR STARTERS THIS TRUCK LOSES IT WHEN IT HITS A POTHOLE OR A SPEED BUMP. THE TAIL SWAGS TO THE SIDE. IT OFFERS A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND BUMPY RIDE OVER ANYTHING THAT ISNT PERFECT ASPHALT. THE TITANIUM FINISH ON THE DOOR HANDLES HAVE COME OFF AND NOW LOOK AN UGLY DISCOLORED GRAY. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND DASHBOARD ARE SO BADLY ASSEMBLED THAT IT SQUEAKS AND RATTLES. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES.

Fun to drive, find myself filling the gas tank much more often than my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I love this vehicle! Bought it with 77,000 miles on it in 2006. In 2009 I have 204595 miles on it and it drives like its brand new. I do a lot of driving daily for my job and it has been nothing but dependable. However its noisy. If you dont replace shocks with good shocks it will hit every bump in the road but as long as you keep the maintenance up on it you will have few major issues with this vehicle. I feel that I have gotten more than my moneys worth and I will drive it until it wont go anymore. A great vehicle for the price. You can haul heavy people and items and this truck holds its maximum power.

  • EXPLORER SPORT - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

Traded in a Nissan Pathfinder and gave a US brand another chance. Im extremely happy with my purchase of a 2001 Explorer Sport. I love the PM schedule versus the Pathfinder, which had costly PMs every 30k. Its fun to drive and the upgraded interior adds comfort. Job well done FORD.

  • Cant WAIT to trade it in! - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

I bought the 2002 Exporer Sport after driving a Civic. While at the time, I thought I was upgrading, I soon came to regret my decision. The suspension is my main complaint. The ride is SO bumpy and the back will sway and shift if you hit a pot hole or large bump. Also, you can get blown around on the road if its windy. Like any SUV, the fuel economy is awful. I do love the factory stereo, though, and the A/C blows very cold. I have not had any performance problems, and it runs excellent. I cant wait to get rid of it, though, and get something safer and more fuel efficient.

  • Really miss the 4 doors. - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport

Almost from the day we bought it we regretted not putting a bit extra aside for the 4 Door Explorer. Needless to say, we just traded our Sport in for a 2004 Explorer XLS, and are very happy w/ the decision, just so much more vehicle for the money.

  • Great Truck - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport
    By -

Bought this truck in 2002, had about 19k miles on it. This was the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Started ever time, ran smooth, lots of torque. Mileage was about 18mpg and the ride was rough, but its a truck. This truck never had any major problems, kept truck for 7 years and was very happy with it. Sold it with 120,000 miles, still had the original tires, which were still not ready to be replaced.

I bought my Sport in 2002 as a Oval Certified and have absolutely no complaints. I love this truck. Its nice and compact but still has all the perks of a full size. It has an amazing turning radius and I have absolutely no problems parking it- ever! Its sporty and functional. Ive read a lot of complaints about it being a bit of a rough ride, but it is built on a truck base, so you will have that. If you want a softer ride get a car. I cant complain about the ride and that is even with all of the potholes Pittsburgh has The gas mileage is great for a truck. I usually get about 15-17 mpg in the city. I wish they still made it- Id buy another even with the price of gas.
